Hypermotive help launch the first 100% fully integrated electric production RIB

Award-winning electrical engineering business Hypermotive are proud to have been the electrical integration partner on RS Sailings’ electric production RIB. The Pulse58, officially launched at boot Düsseldorf last week, is the first 100% fully integrated electric production RIB to market.

Hypermotive worked closely with battery module partner Hyperdrive Innovation to design, build and integrate the battery system, BMS, charger and high voltage power distribution system into the innovative vessel. The pack provides the power to a state-of-the-art marine propulsion system provided by project partner RAD Propulsion. The 57kWh marinized battery pack Is integrated into a purpose designed underfloor structural case, delivering up to 100V to the RAD drive propulsion unit. RAD drive is a unique and integral retractable drive unit that belt feeds power from the twin motors to a hub-less drive unit. The specially-designed powertrain control system controls all aspects of the drive, motor control and battery conditioning and also controls the electric drive tilt mechanism that lifts the RAD drive into the transom in shallow water.

The vessel also features a number of cutting-edge technologies from marine industry experts Raymarine, Marine360 and TreeAid.

RS Sailing have also announced that Pulse42 is currently in development, plus plans for a commercial workboat and superyacht tender.

Hypermotive’s Engineering Director Jeremy Bowmanadamhuckstep commented, “We are really excited to have been involved in this project, bringing our experience of automotive and motorsport electrification into the marine sector. However, electrification in the marine environment has a unique set of challenges, with electrical safety and reliability being vital when you are out at sea. We are looking forwards to working with RS Sailing and partners on

The electric RIB is expected to help propel the UK towards zero emissions marine transport by 2050, as set out in the recently published Clean Marine Plan. In parallel to the work with RS Sailing, Hypermotive are working on other projects in the marine sector – look out for news on these in the near future
